Let the Olympic Journey begin…
Hey guys,
This is my first blog post and I just can’t describe how excited I am about the Vancovuer 2010 Olympic Games! I’m counting down the days until the opening (btw, did you know we are 119 days away?).
Let me give you some quick facts about this year’s host: Vancouver.
Well, first off, Vancouver is located on in the South West region of Canada, very close to the border with the USA. It has almost 600 000 inhabitants (if we also include the suburbs, one would get to over 2 million).
The climate is Oceanic, with average temperatures of 42F in February (the month in which the Winter Games will be held). Just perfect for some Olympic fun!
Canada, the hosting country, has two official languages: English and French. This means that all pretty much everything related to the games will be available in both languages.
Smoking. If you’re a non-smoker, you’re in luck: smoking is prohibited for all indoor events and even some outdoor ones. The same goes for restaurants, bars and clubs.
Driver’s license: if you’re a US citizen, your driver’s license is valid in Canada, no worries! However, you need to apply for an International Driving Permit beforehand.
Ok, on to the juicy stuff!
The games will begin on February 12th 2010 and will last for 17 days (until the end of the month).
There will be around 80 participating countries, 6000 athletes and 10 000 reporters.
Most countries in the world will televize the events. This means that almost half of the planet’s population will see them (around 3 billion) .
I will keep you updated about everything that happens related to the Vancouver Olympic games. Just make sure you visit my site regularly.
